Trump Calls Relatives of Shot Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence
Former President Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the presidential home.
He noted that he contacted her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Devastating Event
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.
Presidential Call
The president stated he’s talked about a White House visit for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president informed reporters. “And similarly with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community Reaction
Mourners gathered over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid policing efforts in the capital.
Honoring Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that educators wished for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the press. “She was caring, considerate and always eager to support those in need.”
Memorial plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Steps and Policy Adjustments
Authorities have charged a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The incident prompted the Trump administration to halt asylum processing and temporarily stop providing entry permits to holders of Afghan passports.
Condition of Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, per the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on television.
Attorney general Bondi stated on the program that she planned to speak to the family.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with excellence, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had courage,” he told the gathering at the service. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
