The network's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about watching this endearing family go about their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its current sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially catalyze that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
