Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot admitted that it was expected for questions to be raised about his future after another convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the club's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from above,” Slot stated.
“It would be great to change things and get a victory obviously but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “During our regular discussions I perceive the belief. But I've not talked to them since this match yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his team in their European loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase such as this with performances like these.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we will always compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
